The Office of Student Financial Assistance is considering the development of rule which would establish uniform standards for denying awards under the Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) to recipients who are placed on "academic probation" by the school they attend. Since the policies which determine whether a student will be placed on academic probation differ between schools, the purpose of the proposed rule will be to assure the equitable treatment of all award recipients, regardless of the school they attend.

To this end, we are interested in identifying policies which are common to most schools; accordingly, we request that you forward to this office a copy of the policy used by your school to determine when a student will be placed on academic probation. Please fax or email your policy to the attention of Kathy Mascaro. FAX (225)922-0790 or EMAIL "kmascaro@osfa.state.la.us".

Your comments on the rules which may be proposed by this office are solicited.
