Designated Teacher Shortage Areas in Louisiana for the 2000-2001 school year to be used for purposes of granting a deferment of loan repayment under the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) are unchanged from last year's. They are:
Special Education (all areas)
Science
Mathematics
Elementary Education
Kindergarten/Early Childhood
The federal designation of teacher shortage areas under 34 CFR 682:210(q) "targeted teacher deferment" enables borrowers who had an outstanding FFELP loan that was first disbursed on or after July 1, 1987, but before July 1, 1993, to qualify for deferment of loan repayment as described in Section 7.10.N of the Common Manual.
