Student Loans

Effective July 1, 2012, all federal defaulted student loans guaranteed by the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) were transferred under contract to Navient (formerly Sallie Mae) who subcontracts with a number of loan servicing companies to assist with these duties. A LOSFA guaranteed student loan that is now with Navient or one of its contractors is not an indication of a misstep on the borrower's part or that the loan has been "turned over" to a collection agency. These collection procedures with the contractor follow the same federal regulations as those that applied to your student loan before the transfer. We apologize for any confusion this transition may have caused you and encourage you to continue to make the necessary monthly payments to resolve this debt.

Any borrower requiring additional assistance should call 1-800-331-2314. Our goal is that quality service be provided to all LOSFA borrowers.

LOSFA was the state agency designated by the U.S. Department of Education to be the guarantor of student loans that originate in Louisiana under the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) for loans disbursed prior to July 1st, 2010 (7/1/2010).
